[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] hip-hop specifically is a wonderful tool because it engages our students it engages them and it allows them to use their creativity their creative spirit to learn about what’s going on in life irap is reading through artistic performance and what the program is it’s really an extension of what I do in the classroom throughout the school year but during the summer it’s just offered to every student with in Jefferson County whether they’re a student of Jefferson County or in a private school in this case we read an informative texts we read about maybe we read about we’ve read about Maya Angelou we’ve read about Tupac and so they were able to internalize that and either use use hip-hop which they mostly wanted to use they use the element of rap [Music] [Music] [Music] so they created a rap about 2pac a rap about Maya Angelou and then so they can learn self-esteem and to be proud of themselves they had to develop a rap about themselves because as we know when rappers talk about themselves they boast about themselves so that’s what we want them to do we want them to feel good about themselves so we use it as a tool for character education and everything it’s just everything wrapped up in one
